At the time of writing this book Natalie Fee is a thirty year old single parent with an eight year old son – living in a different town from any family support. She admits, with glorious courage, in the pages of the book, that she is seeing a therapist. Her life is evidently challenging and difficult and it is that that, for me, gives her book credibility and genuine expertise. This book is not, refreshingly, written my an American from California and full of the same old cliché’s from someone who believes that they have all the answers. But by a joyful, intelligent young single parent in Bristol who is finding solutions on a day to day basis and sharing her finds with the reader.
Her assumption (and she is correct in this according to all the great spiritual masters) is that happiness is our natural state if only we can de-clutter the nonsense in our heads and get our of own way. She has a particular interest in energy which interested me.
So this book is a series of reflections, suggestions and stories that make a great read for anyone interested in reflecting on the experience of happiness, (which is evidently not linked to any external events.)
As an author Ms Fee is also highly readable. She writes as if she is chatting to you and hers is always a joyful, upbeat and optimistic voice as she discovers more and more ways to work her `alchemy’ and turn the challenges of everyday life into gold.
This book would also make an excellent `primer’ for someone who has never considered this subject before. She is constantly encouraging and friendly – admitting her own failures and celebrating her successes with the reader. She introduces various meditation practices and practical steps that the reader can introduce into their lives.
